HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

So I purchased the 8600 Plus e-All-in-one printer a few years ago. Primary reason was to be able to double side scan documents as I wanted to declutter my paper filing. The printer worked as required for a long time then at some point (cannot pinpoint a date) the option was no longer available in the HP Smart App. I work around this by either doing one page at a time or by using Image Capture on my Mac that seems to be able to undertake double sided scanning with no problem, but frustrated that what I purchased doesn't work properly. Also the printer prints double sided with no problems.

 

I have tried to find a solution but to no avail, any pointers welcomed.

 

Another issue that bugs me is the fact that I have to log into an HP account to be able to use my own printer connected to my laptop/network, again any feedback on this welcomed.

Try these steps:

Update HP Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure that both your HP printer software and HP Smart app are up to date. This can sometimes resolve feature-related issues. Visit the HP Support website to check for the latest updates for your printer model.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) using its IP address and navigate through the settings to check if duplex scanning has been disabled.
  • You may find configuration settings under "Scan" or "Copy" menus that allow you to re-enable duplex scanning.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a full reset on your printer, as this can sometimes resolve issues:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Mac Image Capture Settings:

  • Since your Mac's Image Capture can perform duplex scanning, ensure HP Smart is using similar configurations:
  • Set Image Capture to match default settings for double-sided scanning, and check if any preset configurations in the HP Smart app were altered.
