This printer is on the network.  I had it setup as a printer and fax.  The fax stopped working (it would just say cancelled).  I removed the printer and fax and reinstalled.  the printer/scanner installs, but the fax icon is not showing in Printers and devices.  I've tried installing via the basic drivers, windows printer install and HP Smart.  Any ideas?

@ReverendC, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried installing the full-feature printer driver?

Perform a clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

After the installation, double click on the printer icon on your desktop to open the HP Printer Assistant software to find the fax option.

To know how to setup fax on the printer, refer to - How to Fax

Make sure you run the fax test under Fax setup > Tools, to check for any issues.

Send a one-page black and white text fax to 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). When the service receives your fax, a return confirmation fax is sent within five minutes. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I've tried all the installers, even HP Smart.  None seem to work.

@ReverendC

Try creating a new user account on the computer and install the full-feature software to check if that works.

The last resort is to install the printer using Windows built-in driver

Refer to this document to know how.

Let me know how this goes.
