Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've changed the folder name over and over and the error still happens for both the Scan and the Fax options at the printer touch screen. I've copied and pasted the location of the Network Folder and no change. I did figure a way to scan from my PC but not directly from the printer screen.  It is a new printer that I recently setup. I'm thinking it has something to do with the printer security setting but don't know how to turn off the password requirements for the printer. Anyone have any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi @gbs88,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like the issue might be related to the network folder settings or the printer's security configurations. Here's a step-by-step approach to try and resolve the issue.

Verify Network Folder Settings:

  • Double-check the folder path you've entered on the printer for scanning to make sure it's accurate and accessible. The folder must be shared on your network.
  • Ensure the computer that is hosting the network folder has permissions set to allow the printer to access it.

Check Printer's Security Settings:

  • You might need to disable or modify the password settings to allow the printer to access the folder without security prompts.
  • Here's how to do it:
    1. Access Printer's Web Interface:
      • From the printer’s control panel, find and select Network or Setup to locate the IP Address of your printer.
      • Open a browser and enter the IP address to access the printer’s web interface.
    2. Login (If Prompted):
      • If the web interface asks for a login, try using the default password (often blank or "admin").
    3. Disable or Modify Password Requirements:
      • Navigate to Security settings in the web interface and try disabling password requirements for network folder access.

Enable SMB (File Sharing) on PC:

  • If you are scanning to a shared folder on your PC, make sure SMB (Server Message Block) is enabled on your computer. Some newer printers have trouble with newer versions of SMB, so ensure your PC has SMB1 enabled:
    • Windows: Search for “Windows Features” > Enable SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support.
    • Mac: You may need to adjust your file sharing settings to allow SMB access.

Reconfigure Scan to Folder:

  • After checking the network folder settings, reconfigure the "Scan to Network Folder" on the printer:
    • From the printer's control panel, navigate to Scan > Network Folder and re-enter the correct folder path.
    • Ensure that the correct username and password (if needed) are entered for the folder.

Check Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software may block the connection. Temporarily disable your firewall to test if it's affecting the connection to the network folder.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure the printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can check and update it from the printer's web interface under Firmware or Tools.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
