Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Envy 550 e All-in-One Series.   Can scan.  Cannot print with both cartridges inserted.  Can print with only color cartridge inserted.  Cannot copy.  Inserted new HP black cartridge which did not print.  Have used Costco refilled cartridges and get messages about using only HP.  Unplugged all connections and replugged everything.    My feeling is that the software in this HP printer recognized a cartridge that was not HP and thus messed up the connections so that it's not working at all now!   The printer is several years old, but hasn't been used that often.  Can you help me fix this?  Thank you.

Hi Raj1788:  Thank you for responding.  I had already unplugged connections twice and that didn't solve the problem.  I just found HP Printer Assistant and did the diagnostic run.  It recognized two problems and fixed them so everything seems to be working ok now.  However, I want to get rid of "alignment".  Every time I turn on the printer, there it is.  I don't want to align.  I don't mind if the quality is not perfect.  My printer just asks too many times for alignment.    I've already done numerous alignments to try and fix the problem I had and all I did was waste cartridge ink.   Can I set my printer so that if I want alignment, I can turn it on?  Thank you for your assistance.

Forgot to mention:  HP message is "Previously used HP .... installed."  However, the black cartridge installed is a genuine new HP cartridge!  Also, the alignment page prints.  Thank you.

I'll be glad to assist you with the cartridge issue.

HP does not recommend using a refilled or third party cartridge this may reduce the life span or damage the ink system of the printer.

I suggest you do a Hard Reset on the printer

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Glad to know that the issue is now resolved. Alignment issues might occur when scanning or printing, and an Alignment failed or Alignment Unsuccessful error message displays on the printer control panel.

Note: this feature cannot be turned OFF on the printer. It is as per printer design.

Once the printer completes the alignment, it will not ask you to align unless a New ink cartridge is installed into the printer. Let us try these steps:

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Tools > Align printer

If required, load the cartridge alignment sheet print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.

Follow the instructions on the printer display to align the cartridges. Recycle or discard the cartridge alignment sheet.

For more info on resolving Alignment issues, refer to this document.

Let me know how this goes.
