Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Envy 5532
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As per the title, only a small proportion of the scanned picture is saved as a .JPG.  The printer copies ok, and prints fine from a saved file; it is just scanning to .JPG or .TFF that fails.  Saving a scanned image to .PDF works fine.

I have tried uninstalling the printer software, rebooting the computer, then reinstalling with a fresh download from the HP website.  Still same problem.

The Windows 10 64bit operating system is up-to-date, and Windows Defender shows a clean bill of health.

There are a couple of different software / applications available for this printer and Windows 10.

In general, most scan software includes a way to set the Page Size to "Entire Scan Area"  (exact wording might vary).

Example - If supported - HP Smart for Windows

Thank you very much for your swift reply.

I have downloaded and installed the HP Scan and Capture software from the Microsoft Store, and can now successfully capture images as .JPG files.

Since the rest of the machine's applications run without problems, I am left with pointing the accusative finger at Windows 10 Updates for creating this problem where it didn't previously exist!
