OfficeJet Pro 8715
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I own an HP Officejet Pro 8715 but have had the exact same issue with my last 2 HP all-in-ones.  As I google this issue I notice 2 distinct things.

1) this has obviously been a problem for years (back to 2009)

2) there is not an obvious fix that I can find in 11 years of threads about the same subject

when I scan to pdf at 300dpi I get files that average 1MB per page.  Literally six pages, half full, black and white will be a 6MB file.  I own a business and I have no interest in sending people blurry 100dpi files that are blurry.  I receive crisp pdf's all the time at literally 1/10th the file size.  How can I scan to pdf on my 8715 and get a quality image with a smaller file size.  If there is some miracle fix within HP, that would be great.  I love HP, but they have had a decade to figure this out and as far as I can tell have provided no fix.  If there is a reputable 3rd party software that is simple to use with my 8715, please let me know what you have found.  Doesn't have to be free software, just tell me something that will let me scan clear pdf's in a reasonable file size.  Sorry for the rant, and thank you for ANY answers you have found and can share!!!!

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

One suggestion is to use HP Smart on your computer.  It has a Compression selection (Low, Medium and High) for scanning,

You can download HP Smart on Windows Store for WIn 8.1 and Win 10 OS PCs.

Alternatively, you can try to use VueScan, a 3rd party software (but have to pay)

Moreover, HP has  a newer software where there is a High compression scan, unfortunately, it's not available for your printer model.

Check out these examples of the iHQC (image High Quality Compression) feature on HP printer software:

Hope that helps!
