Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP 4620

I've scanned a lot of documents using Webscan and opened them successfully using some of the older packages.  When trying to open a PDF using Win 10 I got blank pages, so I started digging.  I created a PDF using webscan and a PDF of the same document using the Windows scannin app, demonstrated that the one from Webscan shows blank pages but the one from the WIn app shows the page as expected.  I then opened the PDF files using a plain text editor and saw immediately that the webscan generated documents are labeled as PDF 1.2, and the app generated documents are labeled as PDF 1.3.  The contents also appear to be different strings of unreadable characters.

My question today is will HP update the EWS function to provide a Webscan function that is usable in today's computing environment, whatever level of PDF and image content is required, or is the Webscan function provided 'as-is' with no support or enhancement?  My printer is long out of warranty but I see people reporting the same issue on newer printers.

Hi @Roger_Home

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • Are you referring to scan to email?
  • Which email client do you use?
  • Check the scan to email settings on the EWS page of the printer.
  • Kindly refer to this document to know how to setup 'scan to email' (applies to Officejet printers)

Keep me posted.

@kumar0307 I am referring to the webscan function of the EWS system.  I scan a document, then go to the preview window and save as pdf (not jpg) to my computer.  I have access to several PDF viewers, some of the older ones will open the PDF and display the document, the newer ones open the PDF to a blank page.

If I use the windows suite from HP for my printer I can scan the document and save as PDF, and all viewers will show the page.

Does that explain better?

I understand you are trying to scan from the EWS page of the printer.

  • It is recommended to use the scanning app from HP such as the HP Smart app or HP Full-featured driver on a Win PC to scan.
  • You do not have to go to the EWS page to scan the documents.
  • We cannot troubleshoot on the EWS page of the printer but can on a scanning app.
  • There can be compatibility issues with the newer PDF viewers and the files scanned from the EWS page.
  • As you have mentioned that, while using a scanning app, the PDF files are displayed fine, it seems the apps are working fine.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@KUMAR0307 the last sentence in my original post was something like 'Is HP going to update the EWS to work in today's environment or is it provided as-is'.  Your response says to me that HP is not going to update the EWS, it's effectively provided as-is with no support.  In a universe where users have Android and Linux based systems I find it unfortunate that we're forced to use a Windows product to get functionality.

I understand your concern.

You may use the HP Smart app on the android and iOS devices to print and scan.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.
