Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 7520 quit advancing paper when trying to make a copy.  I cleaned it thoroughly including the paper foot that comes down to grab a sheet.  The foot runs, but the bottom wheels don't turn.  Is this thing shot or what?

@Ken_CO, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Have you tried printing a document from a computer and check if the issue persists?

Are you using US letter size sheets?

For now, let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, perform the steps mentioned in this document.

Let me know how this goes.

Thanks for your suggestion.  I followed your instructions and updated apps using the printer display; however, the paper out error persists.  Since we send print jobs mostly from our computer, I tried to copy from the flatbed and autofeeder, but got the same error.  I've cleaned every roller and wheel I could find and ran all the diagnostic tests so there must be an internal failure causing this error.

I appreciate your prompt response and help.

That's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

 Hi KUMAR0307,

Did some more tinkering on my Photosmart 7520:  When I try to print without any paper or tray in the printer, the bottom grabber wheels on the drop-down foot run.  If I put one sheet of paper in it, the wheels don't run.  It seems the cycle got reversed:  paper out, tries to grab paper; with paper in, errors out.  Is there a programming fix for this?

Unfortunately, this is a hardware issue with the paper rollers. You will have to contact HP Support team for service options.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
