Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP OficeJet Pro 8720 connected to a W10 laptop over WiFi.  Everything worked just fine until about 1 year ago.

Now when I use the HP "Printer Assistant" package to scan something (anything) I am told the

software on the laptop is unable to communicate with the scanner even though the Assistant's startup message

about "Retrieving Device Information" does not indicate an error, and despite the printing ability working fine.

In order to scan something, I have to power down, then power up the 8720.  Then everything works fine for

repeated scans. Ran the Print and Scan Doctor, that eventually told me to power down/up the 8720;  then, of course,

the scan function worked for a while, but the problem was still not fixed.
