My printer (HP Envy 5000 series) easily connects to my chromebooks when I want to PRINT.
When I want to SCAN, I keep getting the message "No Scanners Found". It's the same for both my chromebooks (different models and mfrs.) I've tried changing the networks (2G to 5g) disconnecting and reconnecting. Still the printer won't be recognized as a scanner. It works fine as a scanner if I use the usb cable.
I'd appreciate any tips to fix this.

Hi @Ellie1101,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Is this the first time you are scanning with this Chromebook or did it work before?
f you are experiencing issues with your HP Envy 5000 printer not scanning when connected to an Chromebook, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem. Here are some common steps to help you get scanning working:
Check the Connection:
- Ensure that your HP Envy 5000 printer is properly connected to your Chromebook. It should be connected via a USB cable or over your Wi-Fi network, depending on the printer model.
Install HP App:
- Install the HP app from the Google Play Store on your Chromebook if you haven't already. This app is designed to work with HP printers and provides scanning functionality.
Check Scanner Settings:
- On the printer's control panel or through the HP app on your Chromebook, check the scanner settings. Ensure that the scanner is set to the correct scan type (e.g., document, photo) and resolution.
Restart Devices:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart both your Chromebook and the HP Envy 5000 printer.
Check for Permissions:
- Ensure that the HP app on your Chromebook has the necessary permissions to access the camera and storage, as scanning may require these permissions.
Reinstall HP App:
- If you're still having trouble, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP app on your Chromebook.
Check for Chrome OS Updates:
- Ensure that your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Sometimes, updates can address compatibility issues.
If none of the above steps work, consider contacting HP customer support for assistance. They may be able to provide additional guidance or troubleshoot specific issues with your printer and Chromebook setup.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for the comprehensive answer. I found out the problem was that my computer was connected to my 5Ggnetwork and the printer was connecting to my 2g network. I disconnected the printer from the wifi, reconnected to the 5g network and now it works fine.
