When I put a USB into the printer/scanner, it recognizes the USB inserted and allows me to scan a document. It also says "scan saved successfully on memory device". However, when I plug the USB into my computer (also tried on a PC laptop with same result), the USB is empty. Firmware is up to date.

Thank you for reaching out!

I completely understand how confusing it must feel when your printer cheerfully says, “scan saved successfully, yet your USB drive appears completely empty when you check it. Let’s walk through a few steps together to get those missing files back where you can see and open them.

  1. Check File System Compatibility:

    • Ensure the USB drive is formatted with a compatible file system that the printer can write to, such as FAT32. NTFS-formatted drives may not work properly for scanning on some devices.
  2. Verify USB Port Functionality:

    • Try using different USB ports on the printer to rule out any port-specific issues.
  3. Test with Different USB Drives:

    • Use another USB drive to check if the issue is specific to a particular USB device.
  4. Ensure Proper Ejection:

    • After scanning, make sure that the USB drive is safely ejected from the printer before inserting it into your computer. Improper ejection can sometimes lead to incomplete file writes.
  5. Check the Scan Settings:

    • Verify the scan settings on the printer to ensure that the file format and destination are properly configured. Ensure that the file is saved in a location or folder on the USB that you can access easily on a computer.
  6. Inspect for Hidden Files:

    • On your computer, check for hidden files on the USB storage. Sometimes files may not be visible by default, depending on your file explorer settings.
  7. Check USB Drive for Errors:

    • Plug the USB drive into a computer and perform an error check to see if there are any issues with the drive itself that might prevent files from being read.
  8. Firmware and Drivers Update:

    • Although you mentioned the firmware is up to date, double-check both printer firmware and driver updates to ensure compatibility.

Please keep me posted on how it goes — we’ll make sure your printer and USB are speaking the same language soon.
