@ThomasBClausen, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It looks like you're experiencing issues with your HP printer and the HP Smart app. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Restart Everything
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Restart your PC or mobile device.
- Turn the printer back on and reconnect it.
Reinstall HP Smart App (Clean Install)
Sometimes the app can get stuck in a misconfigured state. Here’s how to perform a clean install:On Windows:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app.
- Navigate to C:\ProgramData\HP\ and delete the HP folder (if it exists).
- Reinstall the latest version of HP Smart from the HP Smart for Windows.
On macOS:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app.
- Use Finder → Go → Go to Folder → ~/Library/Application Support/HP/ and delete that folder.
- Reinstall the latest version of HP Smart from the HP Smart for Mac.
Connect the Printer Correctly
When you re-add the printer:
- Make sure you're signed into HP Smart with your HP account.
- Select the printer when it appears. If it shows "Web Services not enabled," enable them.
- Try adding the printer using its IP address instead (you can find this in the printer settings or your router).
Use Windows Fax and Scan / Image Capture
While troubleshooting the app, you can try scanning via:
- Windows: Search for Windows Fax and Scan or the Scan app.
- Mac: Open Image Capture from Applications → Select your printer → Scan.
HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
- Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run it and let it automatically diagnose and fix scanning issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
