According to the error messages and a review of your information I need to replace the printhead on my 7520 printer, at a cost of nearly $100 plus the additional cost of replacing the ink cartridges as recommended.

How do I know if replacing the printhead and installing new ink cartridges at a total cost of $170 will repair this printer?

Considering that I can purchase a Canon or Epson printer that has more economical ink cartridges than HP’s for less than $100? I like my 7520 very much but, I am leery of spending $100 on a new printehead and buying new ink cartridges only to discover that my printer still doesn’t work.

If I purchase a new printhead is there any guarantee that the problem will be resolved?

Thank you,

Bruce

@BruceEss,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.

I reviewed your post and understand that you want to know whether replacing the printhead will fix the problem.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • How did you get to know that the printhead is failed?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, I would like to inform you that usually the printhead comes with a set of cartridges and you do not need to purchase additional cartridges.

There is no guarantee that the new printhead will fix the issue you can try replacing the printhead at your own discretion. However, I recommend you try to follow the steps in the below article and see if it resolves the issue before ordering the printhead for your printer.

Thanks for the reply, The Fos!

When was the last time the printer was working fine?

A few days before I posted my message there were white lines running through all black text printed. Following the online directions I removed the cartriges and printheadl cleaned the printhead; and reinstalled the printhead and cartriges.

How did you get to know that the printhead is failed?

When I tried to print after reinstalling the printhead and cartridges I received the printhead failure message and, after following all of the recommended remedies I got the printhead failure message everytime.

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

As written above, I followed all instructions available in the online troubleshooting section.

Is it common for a printhead to fail after cleaning and that the printer will work again after a new printhead and cartridges are installed.

I greatly apprciate your advising the the cost of the new printhead includes ink cartridges; I really prefer to keep this printer running and $100 for the printhead and cartriges is a fair price if a new printhead will solve the problem.
