No problem printing with printer. When we try to scan using HP Smart, we can see the printer in HP Smart and it says it is online. When we click to scan it brings up the HP login. We try to log in and we get errors. Not always the same error. Sometimes it just spins and spins. We have uninstalled and reloaded HPSmart and that made no difference. We have cleared browsers cookies and that made no difference. We know the login is good as we can use the browser and log into our HP account. I have run out of ideas on how to fix this issue.

Hi @TSKinSV

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you've put in a lot of effort already—let's try a few additional steps to resolve this issue with scanning via HP Smart:

1. Bypass HP Account Login

  • HP Smart shouldn't always require a login for scanning. Try scanning without logging in:
    • Open HP Smart, but instead of signing in, skip the login step and navigate directly to the Scan option. See if it works offline.

2. Use Windows Scan App

  • As an alternative to HP Smart, try the Windows Scan App:
    • Download it from the Microsoft Store (if not already installed).
    • Open the app, select your HP OfficeJet 4630, and try scanning.

3. Manually Adjust HP Smart Permissions

  • Check that HP Smart has the necessary permissions to access your scanner:
    • On Windows 11, go to Settings > Privacy & security > App permissions.
    • Select Camera and make sure HP Smart is allowed access (since scanning uses similar permissions).

4. Verify Network Connectivity

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your PC.
  • Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor again, but this time, focus on diagnosing scanner-specific issues.

5. Update Firmware and Software

  • Update your printer's firmware via the HP Smart App or the HP Support website.
  • Confirm that both HP Smart and Windows are fully updated.

6. Reinstall HP Smart with Admin Privileges

  • Uninstall HP Smart once more, but this time:
    • Reinstall it by right-clicking the installer and choosing Run as Administrator.
  • This ensures all system-level changes are correctly applied during the installation process.

7. Use Scan to Email or Scan to File

  • On the printer's control panel, configure Scan to Email or Scan to File options:
    • This method bypasses HP Smart and sends scanned documents directly to an email address or a folder on your computer.

8. Clear HP Credentials Cache

  • If the errors persist, clear cached credentials related to HP accounts:
    • Open Control Panel > Credential Manager.
    • Look for saved credentials related to HP services and remove them.
    • Re-enter login details when prompted.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
