Problem tried Setting "SCAN TO EMAIL" using hp-smart for "hp laserjet MFP M281"

Hi, When I tried Setting "SCAN TO EMAIL" using "hp-smart"   for  {hp laserjet MFP M281} ,

the steps I took were as follows :

in "hp smart" > printer settings > Settings > Advanced settings > SCAN menu > scan to email settings

in the first part which is "outgoing email" , I am not sure how to fill different parts ! 

Also , do I need to fill all parts ?

There are three models in the "281" group:

•  Product Specifications for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw (T6B83A)
•  Product Specifications for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdn (T6B81A)
•  Product Specifications for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw (T6B82A)

All three of these appear to support SMTP - digital send, including Scan to Email.

Yes, generally, you do have to fill in all the information - leaving the printer to guess is less effective than telling it what you want.

For example:  Pages 54-56 and page 64

Opinion:  Of the two methods, the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is usually easier.

HP Smart Windows supports a "Share" option to send your scans to the recipient of that email.

How to?

Add the "Sender" address, that is, the email address that is "sending" the mail - to Windows Mail.

Open HP Smart Windows > Select Scan Documents or Scan Photos

Scan (OR Import a previously saved image file)

Set the boundaries (full)

Optionally, Edit the scan

When ready,

Select Option > Share

Select the Windows Mail icon

Select a Send from email address

Continue setting up the email contents (recipient(s), add message) and Send

Hi,

Many thanks. Your answer helped me to solve the problem. In fact after reading your response I also watched a video in youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM7PS-5D06A) that clearly and step by step explained how to fix the issue.  

Specially in this video, it says in case you receive the error message "Username or Password is not correct" , then turn off 2-step verification and select less secure option !

My concern is why HP haven't found a better solution.
