Having removed the HP Solution Centre from my computer I saw on the web that I should download HP Scan Extended. On opening HPSE and trying to scan a document to create a PDF copy I see a flash image of the document scanned but no permanent image shows anywhere in the window. I have reinstalled all the software and drivers for my printer along with a fresh install of HPSE. Is my printer to old for HPSE.
I used HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose my printer for scanning issues and found it still uses HP Solution Centre Splash Screen to check that you are able to scan. I was able to get a pdf copy of the document I was trying to scan in HPSE. Can I reinstate the splash screen on my desktop. Solutions to both problems would be appreciated.

Welcome to the HP Community.
HP Scan Extended requires that the full driver software still be installed.
Although HPSE installs by itself, the software is not "stand alone".
Generally, HPSE will support a printer that uses the Full Driver printer software.
Too old? Unknown, though the issue might simply be a tangle created by the order in which the various software packages were removed / installed / checked / restarted.
What to do?
No idea, though were it me I'd uninstall the lot so I could start Fresh.
Uninstall printer software and HPSE from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
Install the Full Feature Software software first > Restart computer and log in
Add HPSE > Restart computer and log in
Reference...
HP Scan Extended
- Download-Save-Install
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
- HPSE is a subset an older Full Feature Software suite.
- HPSE features are very similar to the HP Scan Software released after 2015.
- Although HPSE appears to be a separate software, HPSE is dependent on the infrastructure provided by the Full Feature Software (full driver). The Full Feature Software for your printer should be installed before installing and using HPSE.
- OPTIONAL: Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
- Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
- Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Pin to Taskbar
- Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Send to Desktop (Create a Shortcut)
- Right-Click HPScan.exe > Select Pin to Start
- OPTIONAL: Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
- HP Scan Extended features include (and are not limited to): Single, Multiple scans, Image and PDF scans, Email as PDF / JPEG, Source selection, Page Size choices include Auto-Detect (extracts image / document boundary). Might include OCR (Save as Editable Text).
What else?
There are additional Scan options available in Windows 10 - some of these do require that the Full Feature Software / full driver is (already) installed.
NOTE: Your printer might not support EWS / Webscan - left in as FYI to those reading...
Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software
NOTE: Webscan feature is not available on Laser printers
If the printer is on the network,
If the EWS feature is available on your printer,
First Time Use Only: Enable Webscan
- Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
- Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > Enable >> Check box next to Webscan
- Click Apply to save any changes
Use Webscan
- Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
- Tab Scan > Webscan
- Set up Webscan the way you want it - for example, set the Source to ADF
- Click Start Scan to scan your document / image using Webscan
- After the scan is complete, Save the scan to your computer.

You are welcome.
Ah - I did not check it before.
No matter - the answer is the same with the exception of the "name" of the software.
In fact, IF your driver includes the extra features found in HPSE (for example, the "detect" photo boundary feature), you don't need to install HPSE.
Your printer supports the Full Feature Software.
Last release was in 2015.

Full Feature Software does not include the dependency on Flash.
The predecessor, that is, the actual "Solution Center" software included Flash in the start menu wrapper.
