Problems setting up digital fax archive

Hi, need help. been spending all morning on this.

i'm trying to receive faxes to file (PDF) using digital fax archive. i finally was able to install HP utility on my mac after an hour of getting the run around with HP Smart app and the HP support.  

However, when i open the app for my printer, i don't see a digital fax archive icon.  I only see buttons for basic fax, junk fax blocking, fax forwarding etc.

When i go to the printer's setting screen for fax, and click HP digital fax, it says "This feature is not set up. For more information see the documentation provided with the printer..."

How do I enable digital fax?

A traditional phone line (landline) connection is required to use HP Digital Fax.


Update the printer firmware

Go to setup > tools > update the printer


Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.



Open Finder, click Go > Applications, double-click the Hewlett-Packard or HP folder, and then double-click HP Utility. Under Fax Settings, click Digital Fax Archive.

Follow the on-screen instructions for the selected setup type. To see if your printer supports additional Digital Fax options, look in the Fax or Setup menus on the printer control panel.

If the utility is not found, click here to install the same. 


Test the setup

To test if the HP Digital Fax setup was successful, send a fax to 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963 U.S.). The service sends a return fax within 5 to 7 minutes to your fax number contained in the fax header. After the fax is received, navigate to the folder you selected during the setup to view the fax, or check your email account if you set up fax to email.
