I am also very frustrated with this printer which I bought for its SCAN facilities.

I can scan to a Windows 10 computer but not MAC OS X 10.6.8 which I use most often.

Has anyone been able to find a driver that will let us scan from M277 to our PC?

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are you are unable to scan to computer on HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

I made a research on this and found that Scan to computer option is not available on this printer.

Instead you can scan to a USB flash drive and transfer the data to the computer.

Follow the below steps to scan to USB flash drive.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Load the original photo or document:

       NOTE:

If you are scanning multiple pages that have content printed on both sides of the paper, use the scanner glass. You need to scan each side of the paper manually. The printer cannot duplex scan from the ADF.

    • Scanner glass: Place the item with the print side down on the scanner glass, and then position it according to the engraved guides around the glass. Close the scanner lid.

    • ADF: Place the item into the document feeder tray. The print side faces up and the top edge goes into the tray first. Adjust the paper width guides to fit the item.

Figure : Place the item print side up into the ADF

Image: Place the item print side up into the ADF

         CAUTION:

Do not load photos in the ADF. Use the scanner glass instead to prevent damage to photos.

  3. Insert the memory device into the walk-up USB port.

The USB Flash Drive screen displays on the printer control panel.

  4. Touch Scan to USB Drive, and then touch Settings.

  5. To scan a double-sided original, touch Scan Source, touch Flatbed Scanner, and then touch Multiple Pages.

The printer saves the setting for the current scan job and returns to the Settings screen.

  6. Change any other settings for the scan job, such as Scan File Type or Scan Resolution.

  7. Once you have selected the desired settings, touch Scan to scan and save the item.

The printer creates a folder named HPSCANS on the USB device and saves the file using an automatically generated file name.

Click here and refer the document more steps.

Let me know if that works.

Cheers.

Dear Sandytechy20

Thank you for the detailed instructions. I really regret that the MFP M277dw cannot scan directly to my MacBook pro. I am indeed using a USB drive as interface to the computer.

I hope HP comes up with an updated driver to scan directly to MacBook.

I think it should be possible, because I have been able to scan from the same MFP M277dw directly to a Windows 10 laptop.

I will check HP Updates from time to time in the hope of an upgrade in the driver!

Regards

This is a deeply unsatisfactory response 1995 era response to a simple problem.  Lower end HP officejet printers have this capability through HP Easy Scan.  Why not this machine which costs 3x the officjet?  I wouldn not have purchased the machine if I had known this.

This solution is highly dissatisfactory! If one buys a machine that advertises to be able to scan to a computer or a network folder, I expect a technical answer with clear instructions as to how to implement this feature. A medieval "workaround" isn't an option then. Shame on you HP!
