If I scan a doc into my computer and try and save it I get a message I have to sign up to save it why?
I should be able to save it into my computer with out signing into anything.
thank you

HP Smart Application
If you are using the HP Smart application,
then Yes, you must sign into the application using your HP account credentials.
And
There would be no additional need in HP Smart to "sign up" for anything - you have an HP account else you'd not be "here" asking your question.
The change requiring that you sign into the HP Smart application was implemented at the end of 2020.
Use of the HP Smart application is NOT mandatory.
Choice.
===========================================================================
Printer Software
If you are using HP Scan - part of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software,
then No, there is no need by HP to sign into the software.
What else?
If you have installed the HP printer software
If you are using a different ("Not HP Smart") HP application to scan, there is no need to sign into that application.
Example - no sign-in required:
Scan and Capture
Available from the Microsoft Store (formally Windows Store) - Requires Windows 8 or higher
Download-Save-Install HP Scan and Capture
===========================================================================
"Other software"
That said, what you are using and what you are being asked to do might be something completely different.
Different words can mean different results...
For example,
"Sign up" might mean you are using Third party software to scan - that software might require that you sign up for their service to use their software. Completely up to whomever is providing the software.
