EARLIER TODAY I CALLED HEWLETT PACKARD TEC SUPPORT USING A PHONE FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE HEWLETT PACKARD WEBSITE. MY CONCERN IS WHETHER I HAVE EXPOSED MYSELF TO A SCAM. THE TECH PERSON TOOK CONTROL OF MY COMPUTER. HE DETERMINED THAT MY PRINTER PROBLEM, A LINE THROUGH THE DOCUMENTS THAT ARE SCANNED VIA THE ADF, WAS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM. HE MENTIONED THAT HE NEEDED MY BANK'S NAME, NOT ACCOUNT NUMBER, TO REFUND $25 TO THE BANK ACCOUNT AND THEN $25 WILL BE WITHDRAWN FROM THE ACCOUNT, ALL BEING NEEDED TO  UPDATE MY PRINTER SOFTWARE. HE STATED THAT HP PROVIDES LA IFETIME SOFTWARE WARRANTY.  HE MENTIONED THE BETTER BUSINESS BURERAU. HE THEN FORWARD MY CALL TO A ALEX WILLIAMS. WHEN I STARTED TO QUESTION WHETHER THIS WAS LEGITIMATE OR A SCAM, THE CALL WITH ALEX WILLIAMS WENT SILENT. I HAVE BLOCKED MY BANK ACCOUNTS. MY INITIAL CALL TO HP WAS TO (Edited). WAS I SCAMMED? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST I DO/ WHY IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A PHONE NUMBER FOR HP'S SECURITY DEPARTMENT. THANK YOU.

Hi @PAIGEISABELLA,

Thank you for reaching out, I completely understand your concern, and you're absolutely right to question the situation. Let’s go over a few important points to help clarify and protect you going forward:

First, may I ask, did you visit the official HP website (https://support.hp.com) to get the support number, or did you find the number through a search engine like Google or Bing?

Here are some important things to know about official HP support:

When an HP support agent needs to remotely access your computer (only with your permission), you'll be clearly informed, and HP uses secure, traceable tools, nothing is done without your full awareness. Also, HP does not record any personal information or sessions.

If you were speaking to an official HP agent, they would have provided you with a case ID or reference number for your support interaction.

Since you've already taken smart steps like blocking your bank accounts, here are some next actions I recommend:

Run a full antivirus and malware scan on your computer to ensure no remote access or harmful software is lingering.

If you gave out any sensitive information, consider placing a fraud alert with your bank or credit bureau.

Please stay safe, take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

The same thing happened to me 5/8/25 with the same guy, Alex Wms. He wanted permission to log into my PC to do a refund via "BANK REFUND PORTAL: OF WHICH i WASN't familiar with. Dumb ass me, I allowed them access. It took forever and Alex would come back online with me under the auspices he was working with Chase Bank. It seerms to me that HP allows these assholes to work for them. When Alex started F-bombing me I realized he was scamming me, so I disconnected the PV and internet and called the bank for a freeze on my accts. Turns out he was in the process of w/drawing $20,000 from my available accounts. What is wrong with HP? where do they find these bastards? HP is now off my shopping list....forever and ever.....I hope those of you reading this, do not experience this type of service.. DOWN WITH HP......I'M CALLING MY SENATOR & CONGRESSMAN AND TURNING  HP IN.

Hi @bbdgbn4511346 ,

Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m truly sorry you had to go through such a distressing situation. Your concerns are completely valid, and I want to assure you that HP takes matters like this very seriously.

Could you please confirm if you were given a case ID or reference number during the call?

If so, providing it will help HP’s internal team investigate the incident thoroughly and determine whether the interaction was legitimate or part of a scam.

Please share any additional details you have (case ID, names, screenshots, etc.), and we’ll make sure the appropriate teams are notified.

You’re not alone in this, HP values your safety and trust.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
