Hi @COSEY,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the scanning software or the communication between the printer and your computer. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Check HP Smart Software:

  • Make sure you are using the HP Smart software for scanning.
  • Open HP Smart, select your printer, and click on Scan.
  • If prompted, ensure you select a location (e.g., Desktop) in the file dialog.

Check Default Save Location:

  • If you're scanning through another program, make sure it is set to save the file in the appropriate location (e.g., Desktop).
  • Sometimes, programs like Windows Fax and Scan may have trouble locating the destination if there are permission issues. Try choosing Documents or Pictures as a test.

Run Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Open Settings on your computer.
  • Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Printer and run the troubleshooter to identify any potential issues with the printer setup.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Sometimes, the drivers may become corrupted. Uninstall the current printer drivers and reinstall them using the latest version from the HP support website.

Check Permissions:

  • Ensure that the location (e.g., Desktop) is accessible and that your user account has the necessary permissions to save files to it.

Try Scanning from a Different App:

  • If the issue persists, try scanning using another application like Windows Fax and Scan or Windows Scan to see if the issue is specific to the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
