Product: HP OFFICE JET PRO 6978
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having difficulty connecting my scanner (included with printer) to computer. The printer works but I am unable to scan to computer. The error message indicates "the scan could not be completed. Make sure the computer is connected to the printer and then try again". Since the printer works, I am unsure how to fix this. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like you have not installed printer software and drivers on your computer. Please try the following software first

 

https://support.hp.com/ca-en/drivers/hp-officejet-pro-6970-all-in-one-printer-series/model/11161264?...

 

Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows 10:

 

(a) Hit Win key,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"

Installed and HP Scan Extended, but FAX reports same error. I should restate my issue. Scanner/printer works fine. Also can FAX from printer, but when I run HP send FAX I get the error. Printer passes all self tests.
