Hi @Gina1999,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "SMTP email authentication is required. Check your username/password and try again" typically means that the printer is trying to send an email via an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server, but it is unable to authenticate the credentials (username/password) provided for the email account you're using.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Check the Email Settings: Ensure that you have entered the correct SMTP server settings for your email provider. You will need:

  • SMTP server address (e.g., smtp.gmail.com for Gmail, smtp.office365.com for Outlook)
  • Port number (usually 465 for SSL or 587 for TLS)
  • Email address and password associated with the account.

Enable SMTP Authentication: Most email services require authentication when sending emails. Ensure that "SMTP Authentication" is enabled in your printer’s email setup settings. This means entering the email username and password for authentication.

Allow Less Secure Apps (if applicable): For some email providers (e.g., Gmail), you may need to allow "less secure apps" to access your account or create an app-specific password. This can be done through your email account's security settings.

Check for Two-Factor Authentication: If you have two-factor authentication enabled for your email account, you may need to generate an app-specific password to use with the printer instead of your normal email password.

Test the Connection: After verifying and updating the settings, test sending an email again from the printer to check if the issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, you may need to refer to your email provider's help documentation for specific SMTP configuration or authentication requirements.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
