I press scan.  Nothing happens on computer screen. That is, I don't not get the window called "Scanning from...Scan Doc Button (HP Solution Center)".  Scanner WORKS.  When I run the scan doctor, I can do the test scan (and the dialog screen comes up), but not when I work directly from the printer.  I can just run the scan doctor over and over but it's incredibly time consuming and can only do one scan at a time.  I have tried turning off printer, unplugging printer, unplugging it from the computer, and starting it all again, with no change.  When the scan doctor test scans, I then try immediately to do a normal scan.  Nothing works.

Try / Consider

Add the following to your checkpoints...

Old driver is Gone

We see occasional questions about older printers for which the full driver software installation packages cannot be found for current (or past) versions of Windows.

The full driver printer software for this printer is no longer listed as available from HP for Windows 10.

As available, install the Windows Built-in Print Driver.

Reference here:

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Scan? See Section FAQ > How do I use the printer functions with the built-in driver?

Scan your documents and photos:

Complete (your) scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.

Examples

Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.

Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.

Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.
