Hi @Bonitanne

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To scan documents using the HP OfficeJet 4500 and send them via email, follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare the Document

  1. Place the Document: Open the scanner lid and place your document face down on the scanner glass. Align it with the corner of the glass.
  2. Close the Lid: Ensure the lid is closed properly to avoid any scanning issues.

Step 2: Scan the Document

  1. Use the Control Panel:
    • On the printer's control panel, press the Scan button.
    • Select To Computer or To Email (if available, depending on your model).
  2. Using HP Software (Optional):
    • If your printer is connected to a computer, you can use the HP scanning software:
      • Open the HP Software on your computer (you may find it in your Start menu).
      • Click on Scan and select Scan a Document or Photo.
      • Choose your scanning preferences (color, file type, etc.) and click Scan.

Step 3: Save the Scanned Document

  1. Choose the File Format: After scanning, you'll be prompted to choose a file format (usually PDF or JPEG).
  2. Select the Destination: Choose a folder on your computer where you want to save the scanned document.

Step 4: Send via Email

  1. Open Your Email Client: Go to your preferred email application (like Gmail, Outlook, etc.).
  2. Compose a New Email: Click to create a new email.
  3. Attach the Scanned Document:
    • Click on the Attach button (often represented by a paperclip icon).
    • Browse to the location where you saved the scanned document, select it, and click Open.
  4. Enter Recipient Details: Add the recipient's email address, subject, and any message you want to include.
  5. Send the Email: Click Send to send your email with the scanned document attached.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
