HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer

The feeder to scan multiple pages is not working normally.  If I use the feeder to scan multiple documents into my computer, the pages show up blank in the computer.  The regular one page scanner works fine.  The feeder also works fine to print documents, but for some reason for scanning it is not working.  It has worked for years up until this point.  Is there any way to fix this?

Hi @bdevorzon,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the Scan Feeder not working

If the automatic document feeder (ADF) on your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One printer is not scanning multiple pages correctly and the scanned pages are showing up blank, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Clean the ADF Rollers and Glass:

Clean the Rollers:

  • Open the ADF cover and gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or isopropyl alcohol. Ensure that no residue or dirt is affecting the feeder's performance.

Clean the Glass Surface:

  • Clean the glass on the scanner bed where the ADF scans the pages. Dust or smudges on the glass can sometimes cause scanning issues.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Inspect the ADF:
    • Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the ADF. Remove any jammed paper and check for small pieces of paper that might be stuck inside.

3. Verify Scan Settings:

  • Check Scan Settings:
    • On your computer, open the scanning software (e.g., HP Smart or HP Scan) and verify the scan settings. Ensure that the correct source (ADF) is selected and that the settings match your needs.

4. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware:

  • Update Drivers and Firmware:
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers and firmware updates for your HP ENVY 7640. Outdated drivers or firmware can sometimes cause scanning issues.

5. Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Power Cycle:
    • Turn off your printer and computer, then turn them back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @bdevorzon,

Please find the remaining steps below.

6. Test with Different Paper:

  • Try Different Paper:
    • Use a different type of paper or a fresh stack of paper to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, paper type or condition can affect the scanning process.

7. Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Reset Printer Settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, you can perform a reset to restore default settings. This can sometimes resolve configuration issues:
      1. Go to Setup or Settings.
      2. Look for Printer Maintenance or Restore Defaults and follow the prompts.

8. Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

By following these steps, you should be able to address the issue with your HP ENVY 7640’s ADF not scanning multiple pages correctly.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
