HP ENVY 4520
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Good day,

This use  to work on my old printer.  Different manfacturer!

I am trying to scan multiple photos at one time on my HP 4520 and have them seperated into seperate JPEG files.

I am launching HP Easy Scan and placing the photos on the scan glass within the scan area. It is not working and only photo  is being scanned properly.  The others are cut off!

Thanks in advance

Hi! @RastaOzzie, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand you have issues scanning multiple photos from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Please try the steps recommended below.

1) On the top menu bar of the Mac computer, click Go (If you cannot see “Go”, Click on an empty area on the desktop screen, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page).

2) Select Applications.

3) Select image capture to open it.

4) Select your printer under "Devices" or "Shared".

5) This will open Scan Interface.

6) Uncheck the option of "Detect Separate Items" and scan one by one.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Hi, This works if I select "Detect Seperate Items" from the drop down menu.  The only other option is 'detect enclosing box"

Thanks

@RastaOzzie, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned you don't have an option to select detect separate items in the drop down.

Try the steps recommended below.

Use Apple Image Capture

Apple Image Capture comes with macOS and OS X and provides a quick and simple way to scan a document or photo.
   NOTE:
Image Capture does not support scanning to email, scanning as editable text, or starting scans from the printer control panel.

Place the document or photo printed side down on the scanner glass, then close the scanner lid.
If your printer has an automatic document feeder (ADF), you can use it to scan multiple page documents at one time. Do not load photos in the ADF to prevent damage to the photos and the printer.
Open Finder, click Go in the top menu bar, click Applications, then double-click Image Capture.
Click your printer name in the Devices or Shared list.
   NOTE:
If a Software for this device is not installed message displays after you select your printer, click Install, then follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Click Show Details at the bottom of the screen.
A preview of the scan displays, then change any of the following settings:
Scan Mode: Select the scanning bed or automatic document feeder, depending on where you loaded the original on the printer.
Kind: Set scan as color, black and white, or optimized for text only documents.
Resolution: Higher resolution produces better quality images by using more dots (pixels) per inch. Higher resolution increases the file size of the scan. Use a higher resolution for scans with graphics or items that require the best detail. If you are scanning black and white text, higher resolution is not necessary.
Size: Use a standard paper size, or select the Use Custom Size option.
Scan to: Select the folder you want scans to save to.
Name: Type a name for the saved scan file.
Format: Select the file type for the scan.

Note:

Select the PDF or TIFF format, then select the box next to Combine into a single document to save multiple page documents or multiple images into a single file. This feature is only available in these formats.

Click Scan.
The scan saves in the selected Scan to folder.
To view your scan, open the folder in which you saved the scan, then click the file.

Refer this article to know more information about scanning from Mac.

Sorry Mr. Robot - I don't understasnd your last response.  In my  previous reply  I had said it worked if  selected "defect seperate items"

Your response said "  As you mentioned you don't have an option to select detect separate items in the drop down"

Why does Easy Scan not give me these options?

in any case this allow me to do what I need to do.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi @RastaOzzie, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Thanks for the reply, HP Easy Scan is an application that can be downloaded and used on computers where the full feature software is not available for printers. It is more like a workaround.

As your computer is running on MAC OS 10.11 and full feature software for the printer is available, recommend you use the HP Scan application that is bundled with full feature software.

HP Scan would help you or provide the option you are looking for to detect separate items.

Hope this helped.
