HP ENVY Photo 7830 All-in-One Printer

Hi, when scanning with my HP Envy Photo 7830 I have the problem that the edge of the selected scan area is always cut off. This means that with A4 a part of the sheet is missing all around, although in the preview the whole sheet is in the frame. This is particularly noticeable at the top and left edge.

If, on the other hand, I scan the entire scan area, nothing is cut off, so the top and left edges of the sheet are visible. However, the problem described occurs with any section of the scan area. I have attached a scan of the complete area and the A4 section for comparison.

It does not appear to be a problem with the scan program, as it occurs with HP Smart, HP Scan & Capture, Windows Scan, the web scan via the printer's EWS and also via the Scan to PC or USB stick function of the printer or several other scan apps i've tested. I have also tried several end devices, e.g. via Airscan, but unfortunately it is always the same. I have therefore already reset the printer to factory settings and also checked whether the firmware or the printer driver is up to date, but everything is ok and makes no difference.

Is there a way to report the error to HP? The support page only gives me the option of contacting them by phone for a fee or via Whatsapp/Facebook Messenger (I don't have either) or using the Virtual Assistant (only gives automatic responses and therefore unfortunately can't help). I would therefore be grateful for any ideas on how I can report the problem to a support employee or solve it directly.

Hello Andr-1611,

which programme is this, because I have this setting neither in Hp Smart nor in Hp Scan&Capture?

HP Recommended

Try this Solution:

  1. Download only this file: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
  2. Close all programs

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the msi.

OPTIONAL:

Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
    • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
    • Right-Click on "HPScan.exe" > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start

Hello Andr-1611,

I have tried a lot with this programme in the last few days. Switched the options back and forth, but nothing changes. Here is a picture of the settings used, and below is the output. I'm surprised because I don't have the option you mentioned in HP Extend.

Scan extended: general settingScan extended: general settingScan extended: page size settingsScan extended: page size settings

But I do have that option in Hp Scan, from the HP Full Driver Pack. (See my screenshot below)

And these are the scan results with the settings shown (no visible difference, unfortunately):

1. alle deine Bilder haben die richtigen Formatangaben, also 210*297 mm.
2. Was mir aber aufgefallen ist, dass die Ausrichtung auf automatisch eingestellt ist. Das bitte ändern ...
3. einmal einen Scan mit A4 und einmal einen Scan mit gesamten Vorlagenfläche einscannen.
4. Deine Vorlage, ist die genau A4? Oder ist die etwas größer?

2. what I have noticed is that the orientation is set to automatic. Please change this ...
3. scan once with A4 and once with the entire original area.
4. is your original exactly A4? Or is it slightly larger?

Hi Andr-1611,

my original is actually slightly smaller, especially in length, the width is just right.

I changed the setting as you said, below are the results from both HP Scan and Hp Scanextended. But the results are exactly the same as before.

This is the scan of the entire scan area as you requested. And here the left and top edges of the paper are visible in contrast to the A4 selection.

Create a template.
a) Take a blank A4 page and mark all edges with a permanent marker (black)
c) with a sharp pencil, draw a parallel line exactly 5 mm from the edge of the page

see example

d) The automatic exposure must not be activated in the scan software.

Then scan the page twice. Without changing the position of the page on the scanner glass!

Hi Andr-1611,

i have created the template as you have described.

The automatic exposure was already deactivated. The other settings are the same as described in the last post, so I haven't changed anything.

I have scanned the page several times, as A4 and the full scan area, and have not touched the page, so the position is exactly the same, the results can be seen below.
