Hi @trswago,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue where the HP ENVY 5660 e-All-in-One Printer asks you to sign in but displays a blank window when you try to do so, preventing you from scanning. Since other functions of the printer are working fine, let's troubleshoot this issue step by step:

1. Check Your Internet Connection

Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. A weak or inconsistent connection might cause issues when trying to access the sign-in screen.

2. Restart Your Printer and Router

  • Turn off your printer, unplug it for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your router to ensure there are no network issues affecting the sign-in process.

3. Update HP Smart App

Since you're using the HP Smart app to scan, make sure the app is up to date:

  • Open the Microsoft Store (if using Windows).
  • Check if there is an update available for the HP Smart app.
  • If an update is available, install it and see if the issue persists.

4. Clear the App Cache and Data

Sometimes, cached data can cause the HP Smart app to malfunction:

  • Go to the Settings of your computer.
  • Under Apps, locate the HP Smart app.
  • Select it and choose Advanced Options.
  • Clear the cache and reset the app.

5. Reinstall the HP Smart App HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

If clearing the cache didn't work, try reinstalling the HP Smart app:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your PC.
  • Download the latest version of HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.
  • After reinstalling, try scanning again.

6. Sign In Using a Web Browser

If the issue persists, try signing into your HP account via a web browser on your PC:

  • Visit HP Instant Ink or the HP Smart website and log into your account.
  • Verify that your account is active and there are no issues with your subscription.

7. Try the Scan via Printer's Control Panel

  • If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, try using the printer's control panel to scan directly to your computer.
  • Make sure your printer is selected as the default device in Windows' Devices and Printers section.

8. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Visit HP's official website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Installing the latest firmware might fix the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
