HP OfficeJet Pro 6978

When I Scan from HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 to iMac as I have many times in the past, I now get an error message "no language available" and won't download the scan onto the computer.  Checked language preferences - English - on the HP printer and iMac and reset to that.

Hi @SeniorCitzen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing an issue while trying to scan from your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 to your iMac, and you're receiving an error message indicating "no language available." This error message might indicate a communication problem between the printer and your computer, or it could be related to a software issue. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Restart Devices: Sometimes, simple restarts can help resolve communication glitches. Try restarting both your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer and your iMac.

Update Drivers and Software:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your HP printer from the HP support website.
  • Make sure your iMac's operating system and printer drivers are up-to-date.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your iMac via USB or network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  • If you're using a wireless connection, make sure both devices are connected to the same network.

Reinstall Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer drivers from your iMac and then reinstall them.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP support website and follow the installation instructions.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings and reset any network or communication settings to default.
  • Reconfigure the printer's network settings if necessary.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Sometimes, third-party security software or firewalls can interfere with the communication between devices. Temporarily disable such software and check if the scan works.

Try Different Scanning Software:

  • If you're using the default scanning software on your iMac, try using a different scanning application to see if the issue persists.

Language Settings:

  • While the "no language available" error message might not be directly related to language settings, you can check the language settings on both your printer and your iMac to ensure they are set correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
