Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

My HP Smart app on Android (12) no longer lets me scan. You can see in the image it says "Place content on the scanner, then press the button to start." The button is disabled, and the drop-down (which I believe is for paper size) is not populated and is disabled.

 

Troubleshooting:

  • This is by no means the first time I've tried to scan. I've used this functionality for years.
  • There is no network issue. I can print from the phone.
  • The app has been uninstalled and reinstalled.
  • The printer has been rebooted.

It's pretty clear that the only issue here is THE APP WON'T LET ME SCAN. So why are the controls disabled in the app??

I see that you are not able to scan using the HP Smart app on an Android device.

Make sure the HP Smart app and the device are up to date. 

 

If the issue persists, use the Mopria Scan app to scan documents or photos from your HP printer to your Android device.

Check the requirements to scan with the Mopria Scan app.

  • The printer is connected to your network or a Wi-Fi Direct connection.
  • For a Wi-Fi connection, the printer and Android device are within 6 feet of the access point (router).
  • For a network connection, your device is connected to the same network as your printer.
  1. Go to Google Play - Mopria Scan to install the app. If prompted to allow the app to access photos, media, and files on your device, select Allow.
  2. In the Mopria Scan app, tap your scanner under Discovered scanner.
  3. Place the original on the printer scanner glass or into the automatic document feeder (ADF).
  4. Change any desired scan settings, and then tap Scan.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete scanning the document.

First, multiple people seem to have the same issue I do.

 

Second, the issue appears to be with the HP Smart app. Your solution somehow requires another app? Why? I'm discussing an error with the app itself.

 

Two identical phones in my house on Android 12:

- The one with the May update works

- The one with the June update does not.

 

There appears to be no other difference.

I understand the issue is with the app. However, there is only limited troubleshooting that can be done on the app.

You may either update it or reinstall it.

 

If the issue persists,

I understand your concern. However, if you have referred to the document I attached in my first post, you would not be saying this. It is an HP document. 

If the HP Smart app is not working and if you have tried the steps mentioned and if you do not want to use the Mopria scan app, kindly check my private message to contact the HP Support team for further assistance with the HP Smart app.

 

Using another app is a workaround until the primary issue is fixed so that your work won't be affected.
