The printer says document loaded but the scanning software says no document loaded. The copy function works so the detection is working?

@Leanne71, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Officejet 250 indicates that a document is loaded but the scanning software on macOS Sequoia 15.3.2 shows no document loaded, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Check Document Placement:
- Ensure that the document is correctly placed on the scanner glass or in the automatic document feeder (ADF).
- Refer to the printer’s guide for proper placement instructions.
Restart Printer and Computer:
- Turn off your HP Officejet 250 printer and restart your computer.
- After restarting, turn the printer back on and try scanning again.
Update Printer Firmware and Software:
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
Reinstall HP Printer Software:
- Uninstall the existing HP printer software from your Mac.
- Download and install the latest version of HP Easy Scan or HP Smart App from the HP Support website or the Mac App Store.
Check HP Easy Scan Settings:
- Open HP Easy Scan from your Applications folder.
- Ensure that the correct scanner is selected from the options.
- Verify that the scanner settings are configured for the type of document you are trying to scan.
Use the HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart App and select your HP Officejet 250 printer.
- Try scanning from within the HP Smart App to check if the document is detected.
Test with a Different Document:
- Try scanning a different document to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is with the original document.
