Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Long time lurker, first time poster.

This post applies to Windows 7, 8, and 10. I have an ongoing issue with Scan-to-Computer where either through power cycles on any HP printer that supports Scan-to-Computer, or on the workstations themselves, the function to scan becomes unavailable. There are no network issues and I can still ping, access web GUI, and print to the printer. The fix I have found for this is to:

  • open the system tray
  • right click 'Scan-to-Computer'
  • select Open
  • select Disable
  • then open the devices and printers in control panel
  • open the printer
  • open HP Assistant
  • navigate to Scan
  • select Manage Scan-to-PC
  • re-enable.

When I follow these instructions to the tee, I am able to get the scans back up and running. What my question is, is there a better way about doing this? I have many clients that use HP Printers and it is hard to guide them through this process. If there is already a fix would you kindly point me in the right direction.

Thank you for any feedback 🙂

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

The easiest way to enable or re-enable Scan to Computer is by using the HP Printer Assistant Software. Here is how to do it:

1.) Search Windows for 'HP', and then click the name of your printer in the results to open HP Printer Assistant.

2.) Click Scan, then click Manage Scan to Computer.

3.) Click Enable, also check the box "Automatically start Scan to computer when I log into Windows"

Let me know how it goes!
