I have been using the ability to scan from the printer display to a folder on my Mac for over a decade through various HP printers. Seems like 6 months ago or so, this feature stopped working (may have to do with OS upgrade on Mac) and HP suggested using HPSmart. This is a totally inadequate approach as my printer is in a different room and if I have 5 scan jobs, I have to go to the printer, load one doc, go back to my computer, scan, go through multiple dialogs to save the file, then walk back to the printer to retrieve the document and start the next. I used to just go to the printer and sequentially load and scan each doc from the printer panel. Simple and easy. Why does this not longer work! I just bought a brand new LaserJet 3101 and am considering returning it if I cannot get this to work

Hi @JayFlatley,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing an issue with scanning from your printer.
A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.
1) Take out the cartridges
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges
B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and check if the issue is resolved.
C) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.
D) Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

This is a brand new HP printer and does not need a reset. This function also stopped working on my HP 8740 about 6 months ago... so this is a systemic problem of some sort. Are you confident that this should still work with a Mac? I read some things on the web that suggested that the functionality was removed.

Hi @JayFlatley,
I totally understand its your new printer but in few occations the working features might stop working due to software change on your PC/Laptop or Phones.
Please follow the above shared steps if not performed and let me know if that resolves the issue.
