Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Microsoft Windows 11

I can use scan and capture on my Windows 10 laptop, but I do not have it on my Windows 11 laptop.  How can I install scanning from my printer on Windows 11?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

A quick check shows that at least two of the models in this DeskJet series are Retired.

There is no longer a HP support website for the printers.

I cannot find a listing for any "DeskJet F4400" model.

What to do?

In my opinion, the obvious "next step" is to replace the printer with a printer that is supported.

What else?

Not sure - I've not tried to install or use anything related to a retired printer or one for which there was not at least the opportunity to install and use the Microsoft / Windows Built-in Driver.

If the printer is at least detectable, you could try using the basics.

Examples

Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows  Scan (in English) to install it.

Alternate Scan apps / software that support PDF and Images

Single Page Scan

Sample for PDF Scan (single page)

Windows Fax and Scan

In Windows,

Search for and open Windows Fax and Scan

Click New Scan

OR

Open previously scanned file (Step #4 in the first example)

If new scan,

Select your printer (to scan the content)

Scan the content as  .jpg format

Optional - Click to Save

Click to Print

When Print Pictures opens,

Select Destination "Microsoft Print to PDF"

First part - Scan or Open previously scanned content ( for example .jpg / .tif )

Instead of Print to your Printer, Select Print and then continue with next example in Print Pictures

@Dragon-Fur is correct and the advice is good.

There is a 3rd party solution for scanning but it requires a license.

I have found that the cost of their license is frequently more than a used working printer at thrift stores like goodwill.
