The green scan button on my HP Envy 6558e isn't doing anything when I try to scan a document to my computer. The printer beeps, changes shades of green like it's completing the task, but doesn't scan or do anything else. Copying documents works well. Printing documents from my computer works well.

@Matrix85, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble using the "Scan to Computer" feature on your HP Envy 6558e the printer responds but nothing happens on your computer. Let's walk through the steps to get this working again.

Ensure "Scan to Computer" is Enabled

This feature must be enabled from your computer using the HP software.

  • On your PC, open the HP Smart app.
  • Click on your printer, then go to Advanced Settings (this opens the Embedded Web Server).
  • Navigate to Scan > Scan to Computer.
  • Make sure "Enable Scan to Computer" is checked.

Alternatively, if you're using HP Printer Assistant:

  • Search Windows for your printer name and open HP Printer Assistant.
  • Click Scan > Manage Scan to Computer.
  • Click Enable.

Check HP Smart App or Full Software Installation

Make sure you have the full feature software installed, not just the basic driver.

Restart Devices

  • Restart both your printer and computer.
  • Ensure both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Try Scanning from the HP Smart App

  • Open HP Smart on your computer.
  • Click Scan and try scanning a document.
  • If this works, the issue is likely with the printer’s front panel communication.

Firewall or Antivirus Interference

Sometimes, security software can block the scan communication.

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus and try scanning again.
  • If it works, add HP software to the allowed list in your security settings.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause scan issues.

  • Go to the printer’s control panel > Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Or update via HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
