Hello,

I have the problem as described in the subject that I can't get it set up so that

I can use scan to mail. Even though I enter the correct credentials and cross-check

everything, I get the error message "Invalid credentials" when testing the connection.

As in another posting, I have already changed the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

I tested it once with an Office365 email account and then also with a **bleep** account.

Both get the same error message.

Can you maybe help me with that?

Best regards

Welcome to the HP Community --

If your email provider requires it (and many do so) - Enable 2-Step Verification and create an App Password to be used in place of your email account's regular email password.

Create Scan to Email using EWS:

Scan to Email – Two-Step Verification and Application Password

Email Account Security

"Scan to Email", “Scan to Network”, "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email Account provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".

For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.

Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email / account password in "third party" apps and software.

Hello @Dragon-Fur,

Thanks for your instructions, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me as described.

Because Office365 email accounts also have 2-factor authentication active and I

think that means the verification doesn't work.
Unfortunately I can't use this one tip because it's not a Microsoft account but an

Office 365 (or Microsoft 365) account.
Is there a way that you can also use such an account? If so, what would the configuration

look like?
So far I have taken the following route:
1. Printer homepage
2. General
3. Email servers (enter PIN)
4. Add
5. Option SMTP servers
5.a Display name, email address, SMPT server name, SMTP port, always secure connection active, server requires authentication, user email, email password
SMTP server is: smtp.office365.com
SMTP port: 587
User Email: abcs@dxge.com (example)
Email Password: xxx1234$1 (example)

The user email mailbox is just an example here and for authentication purposes,

every Office365 mailbox is secured via Microsoft 2 factor authentication.

Unfortunately, I can't enter the code here that I have to enter when I connect to my

account via a browser, for example.

Then I save the whole thing and run the test and get an error message Invalid

credentials.

Scan2Email-Fehler.PNG

The error also occurs when I use the Custom Email Profile option instead of the SMTP server.

I hope someone can help me, because it's stupid that you can't easily use this option.

Best regards

Rats - I am sorry creating the App Password and using it in your Email Severs profile is not working.

I don't use Microsoft / Office 365 - I have a single copy of Professional that I'm using at this time.

That said, there is nothing new or specific I can offer --

I would have thought you could sign into your Office 365 email account website or ? and create an App Password.

Sure, it is somewhat "stupid" I guess, but it's the email provider that makes the rules on how the provider wants to grant access to their email servers.

What?

Google and other providers have removed "Less Secure Access" and moved to requiring 2-Step Verification and the use of an App Password created and used instead of the regular email password -- The App Password is used for the purpose of interacting third party applications.

A program -- for example, a profile created in Scan to Email / Email Servers -- that needs to sign into the email provider's servers, counts as a "Third Party" account trying to access the email provider's secured servers.

I do understand that you have done this --

I do not understand why Microsoft 365 does not allow the use of the App Password.

Perhaps I have missed something -- if not, maybe you can get clarification from Microsoft on how to use the App Password.

For those reading

What are we discussing?

Example -- Google (and other providers) email security requires 2-step verification and an App Password that is used in place of your regular email login password.

The App Password is created at the email provider's > Security
