Hello,

I am really having an issue finding a solution to this issue.

I want to use the printers Scan to Email function from the printers LED screen, although it works fine from the HP Smart App.  Trying to configure the HP's Embedded Web Server with Gmail settings, send out the test email which continuously fails with:

"The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again."

Here are my settings I am using for outgoing email settings:

Default From:  xxxxx@gmail.com

Default Display Name:  XXXXX XXXXX

SMTP Server:  [Personal Information Removed]

SMTP Port: 25 (I've tried 465 and 587, no help)

Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) (CHECKED)

Validate server certificate (UNCHECKED)

Maximum Size of Email:  UNLIMITED

Server Authentication:   CHECKED

Username: xxxx@gmail.com

Password is correct

Send a test email to:  (myself), receive this error

I've looked on these forums, downloaded the scan doctor HP program.

Anyone have any worthwhile suggestions to try?

Let's close this mess, I finally got it resolved with HP via a phone call.

Because I just bought the printer, it was under warranty and was able to have HP Tech Support walk me through this.  Here is the solution that I understood to be the fix:

On your Google/Gmail settings, go to Security.  Under Sign in, create an "APP Password".  I called it printer, generated the 16 digit code.  I used THAT code for the password on the embedded web server, not my email password.  That did it.

I do appreciate the help I received from ShlomiL, perhaps I just wasn't understanding the instructions as well as the tech on the phone.

Hi,

From the EWS page, open the Network tab and select your active network connection type, there select the IPv4 settings.

Set a manual DNS address as following and confirm the change:

Go back to the Scan tab and to the Scan to Email settings, be sure to use ports 465 or 587, not any other port.

Now press Save and Test and check for any difference.

May you see any change now?

No unfortunately not with either port.

This is the error I am now receiving:

"Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again."

Hi,

This is great progress, meaning the printer now interacts with Google's servers.

A such occur due to your Google account security settings.

First, open the following link and login to the same account as you set for the printer.

Note: if you are connected, sign out from your account, select your account and manually enter the password to ensure you indeed use the correct password, then click on Security from the left pane:
https://myaccount.google.com/security

Within the Signing in to Google section, check the "2-Step Verification" velue.

If it is set as "On", create and use an App-Specific Password with the printer:

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

If it is set as "Off", Within the Less secure app access section ensure that the feature is on.

If it is Off, click on Turn on access (not recommended) and toggle on the feature. Otherwise, the verification will fail.
Once you are done run a test for the outgoing user profile and check if the problem been resolved.

Regards,
Shlomi

Hey ShloMil,

Ok, this time I get a totally different error with both 465 and 587 port settings.

"SMTP email server error. The server might be down or busy. Try again later."

I would think this must be a google setting error, I have tried multiple times this evening.  Thoughts?

The error you describe below is due to a connection problem.

For google use the following details, from your description it seems the same but just to verify:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Port: 465 / 587

SSL: Checked

Verify Server Certificate: UnChecked

Use Authentication: Checked

Use: your gmail address

Password: your gmail password

Also, make sure the DNS settings remains under the Network Tab > IPv4 Settings, as this is the same error you described prior to changing the DNS Settings.

If the same persists, print and evaluate a Wireless Test Report:

Swipe down the top gray bar to show the Dashboard.

Tap the Settings (gear) icon.

The Print Reports

Tap Wireless Test Report.

Can you see any error or warning listed on the top header?

All settings were correct, I printed the wireless network test, it says:

"No problems found.  Congratulations on the successful setup of your wireless printer."

So then I tried to scan to email from the LED screen again, it tells me "Server error. Try again later"
