The scan to email function on this printer used to work great, but I recently started getting this error:  "Username or password is incorrect.  Make sure both user account and password are valid."

First I made sure that my Google account password was current in Outgoing Email Profiles, as I had changed it recently.  When this did not resolve, I disconnected printer from power for several minutes and then powered on.  No change.   I then went into the control screen to Restore Defaults, requiring re-establishing connection to my wireless system, going to hpconnected.com and re-establishing the printer account and, of course, entering the Outgoing Email Profile as well as any recipient emails for the scan to email function.   All of this to no avail, as I still get the same error "Username or password is incorrect. Make sure both user account and password are valid."

I have verified that the SMTP server is correct, and using the default Port 465, but for some reason it does not recognize or accept my email and password as valid.  Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Ensure you use smtp.gmail.com as the server.

The port is 465 indeed.

Ensure that SSL/TLS is checked

Ensure that a user authentication is checked.

Re-type your full Gmail address as the user and the correct password.

If it still fails with such an error open below link, click the top user and log out.

Manually type the password and ensure you are correct and can log in successfully to that page:

https://myaccount.google.com/

Within the Sign-in & security section click on Signing in to Google and ensure that "2-Step Verification" is set as "Off".

Within the left pane click on Connected apps & sites and ensure that "Access for less secure apps" is set as "ON", otherwise the verification will fail.

Within the left pane click on Device activity & notifications, within the 'Recent security events' section click the Review events link and ensure there are no blocked connection attempt (it will be highlighted in red), if there is any alert follow the steps on screen to ensure there is no block for that device.

Once you are done run a test for the outgoing user profile and check if the problem may be resolved.

SchlomiL, your remedy worked perfectly!  Thank you very much.

I needed to do everything you suggested, and it then started scanning to email without the authentication errors.

Again, thank you!
