Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there,

I was recently using a **bleep** account for our printer's scan to email feature. Recently, as of May 30th, Google in their infinite wisdom decided to just stop using their "Less secure apps" feature without any warning. Now our printer won't scan to email using **bleep** and there is no way to turn the "Less secure apps" feature back on. Does anyone know of another way to allow for a **bleep** account to be set up with scan to email?

I've also tried using a **bleep** and an **bleep** email account, but receive the same error message each time when trying a test email from the printer:

Configuration

Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again.

Click "OK" to go back.

For Yahoo, I've tried the following settings and combinations:

SMTP server: smtp.mail.**bleep**

Port: 587 and 465 (tried both)

Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) - this is checked

Username: I've tried just the username by itself, and with the entire email address

Password: the same password I use to log into the email account

For **bleep**, I've tried the following settings:

SMTP server: smtp-mail.**bleep**

Port: 587, 465, and 25 (I've tried all three)

Always use secure connection (SSL/TLS) - this is checked, except when trying port 25

Username: I've tried just the username by itself, and with the entire email address

Password: the same password I use to log into the email account

Printer firmware is up to date.

Am I missing something??? I have no idea why I can't get ANY of my email accounts to work. Yes, the printer has a valid internet connection and DNS settings. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on? What am I doing wrong??

Thanks!!

Welcome to the HP User Community.

Well, Google did put out at least one broadly worded warning of the impending shutdown of the Less Secure Apps.

Less secure apps & your Google Account

Any warnings, I think, are not as important as the fallout from the change that took place 30-May-2022.

This video will quickly show you how to set up scan to email with an HP printer with **bleep** AND keep the 2-Step verification security feature. App Passwords

Set up Scan to Email HP Printer with 2 Step Verification on **bleep** and Google

Not sure whether Yahoo has followed suit and completely locked down the "less secure" access.

Yahoo does provide an "App Password" mechanism.

Thank Dragon_Fur. Setting up scan to email with 2-step verification on for Google in the video you recommended did the trick. Just FYI for anyone having this same issue: you have to turn on 2-step verification in order to get the "App Passwords" option. That's why 2-step verification is required to be turned on.

Everything is working now. Thanks again!

Excellent.

You are welcome.

Yes, good point — two-step verification must be ON .
