HP Officejet Pro 8600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Previous HP solutions do not work for Scan to email setup.   Can you confirm if the recent Aug 2018 update changed or blocked functionality.

In trying to set up the outgoing email profiles for scan to email setup:

HP Error is "Server not found" or "Connection failed" or from HP printer assistant "Error your printer cannot find the remote server.  Press "back" to correct server name and address or use IP address of the server to connect"

  • Printer has a static ip address
  • The correct networking is configured
  • Does not make a different if in selecting IPv4 only or both - currently IPv4 only is set
  • Manual DNS Servers are set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I have tried with a normal gmail account and a corporate G Suite account.  I have also tried with a different email providers like yahoo and outlook.

  • smtp-relay.gmail.com ports 25, 465, & 587
  • smtp.gmail.com ports 465 & 587 (ping is aslo successful).
  • ip address of 74.125.124.109  ports, 465,587, & 45
  • aspmx.l.google.com port 25

Gmail is set up appropriately and also accepts email from other applications using the the same smtp addresses as above (network router and other software applications such as outlook client, vmware, virtualbox).  These are successful in using the the gmail settings above.

  • Email - There is NO 2-step verification
  • Apps open for security

Other HP Settings:

  • Issue is the same with USB or Network connection
  • Issue is the same in using EWS or the HP printer Assistant
  • Drivers and software are up to date.

Re-downloaded the software and drivers  - 28.0.1316 - which also indicates I am up to date.

  • There is also no difference trying to use the smtp authentication (on or off) or using a pin.
  • EWS the configuration is correct.
  • Wireless printing and scanning work as normal from pc
  • Wireless printing from mobile devices work
  • Scan to Network wireless is successful
  • Hard reset was done
  • Printer, PC, and network have been restarted numerous times.  It has also been unplugged and left overnight.
  • HP software has been uninstalled, folders deleted, main registry keys deleted, and software reinstalled and the issue remains.

Any assistance as to what I am missing is appreciated, or verification that something changed and scan to email is no longer supported.

Thank you

Scan to Email functionality still works.

The process does require that you have an email program installed on the computer.

Email programs "installed on the computer" include Outlook (installed version, not Outlook that you access via the Web browser), and Thunderbird (client).

The process using an installed email program has been tested with gmail; the setup works as long as that gmail account does not require two-step verification AND the account setup for that gmail account includes the "allow insecure apps" setting.   (This is simply verification of the setup and not an indication or claim that you did not test.)

Generally, the DNS settings that allow your computer's  ISP access to the Internet are sufficient.
