How do you scan to PDF with this printer?
The scanner automatically saves as a .jpg in my Gallery folder. Previous HP printers would ask at the start what type of file I wanted. I have seen other responses to this question that require opening other software to resave the file. I only scan documents and this solution is not efficient. I have the SCAN software and the HP Smart apps installed but neither allow me the option of PDF.
I want to have this printer always scan to PDF. How/where can this setting be saved?

This printer does not have a setting to Scan to PDF so Method 1 detailed above is not relevant. All scans done with the printer touchpad are saved as an image. There is no ability to change this. The only file types available are BMP, JPG, PNG, TIF.
The only way to scan documents is to start the scan from the HP Smart app on your computer. It is less than efficient because you cannot use the auto-feeder and must scan one page at a time. Do not buy this printer if you regularly scan documents.

Hi @DLDoerr,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e All-In-One Printer to scan to PDF by default, you may need to adjust the settings either through the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.
Method 1: Using the Printer's Control Panel
Access the Printer's Control Panel: On the printer's display screen, navigate through the menu options using the touchscreen or physical buttons until you find the scan settings.
Select Scan Settings: Look for an option that allows you to adjust the scan settings. This might be under "Scan," "Settings," or a similar menu option.
Choose File Type: Within the scan settings, there should be an option to choose the file type. Select "PDF" as the desired file type for scanning.
Save Settings: After selecting PDF as the file type, save the settings. The exact method for saving settings may vary depending on the printer model, but there should be an option to confirm or save changes.
Method 2: Using the HP Smart App
Open HP Smart App: Launch the HP Smart app on your computer.
Select Your Printer: Make sure your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e All-In-One Printer is connected and selected within the HP Smart app.
Access Scan Settings: Navigate to the scan settings section within the HP Smart app. This may be located under a menu or settings icon.
Choose PDF as Default: Look for an option that allows you to choose the default file type for scanning. Select "PDF" as the preferred file type.
Save Changes: Once you've selected PDF as the default file type, save the changes within the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Right now I have a HP Officejet 5740. When I scan a document I have or a setting that lets me scan a document to computer and save it as a PDF file. It sends the scanned document to my PC as a pdf file. I am looking to buy this model officejet 8034e, and want to make sure this printer has this feature to scan documents as a pdf file and save to pc. If not what officejet will?
Hope you can help me before I buy.
