Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer

I notice today that Scan to Computer is disabled: "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer." Okay ... I set up the printer, so how do I enable this function?

I use an HP Envy Inspire 7955e AIO with a MacBook Pro 14" (2023), macOS Sonoma. I also use Windows 11 with Parallels.

NB: The Community really should update the list of choices for operating system. I use Apple's macOS Sonoma, but it does not appear in the spin box list of choices.

If uninstalling and reinstalling the HP smart app does not fix the issue.

Uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the device.

Install the printer software by clicking on the link again.

Please install the Mac built in drivers to use the printer.

Good morning, Irwin6—I just discovered another wrinkle in this topic. I interpret "Scan to computer" to mean that I can simply step up to my printer/scanner, place a document on the scanner screen, then tap SCAN on the control panel >>  SCAN TO COMPUTER. Using Scan to Computer saves a little time—I don't need to log in on my computer and launch scanning software. However ... .

On the control panel screen, below the instructions for a Windows computer, I read: "Note: This feature is not available for macOS. To scan, use the HP Smart app." Well, I guess that settles it. And that's okay—I'm quite familiar with Apple's Image Capture app, and now I see how to use HP Smart's scanning tool. I don't do all that much scanning anyway, and I've learned to use my iPhone for much of my scanning needs.

Sidebar: I use a MacBook Pro 14" (2023), and I run macOS Sonoma (14.1.2). The Operating System spin box hasn't been updated to include Apple's latest operating system. That's why I left my response as "Unknown OS."

Thanks!

Hi @E9Luke,

I am sorry to hear that the above steps did not help much with scanning for the new iOS version.

Kindly refer to the steps on this link to add the printer using Mac built-in driver and let me know if that resolves the issue with scanning.
