HP 3830
macOS 10.15 Catalina

The last couple of days - very weird things have happened with my printer. (for no apparent reason - no changes to computers, wifi, etc)

Couldnt print from my mac to my printer. Have managed to fix this somehow by uninstalling software etc.  I'm now back up and running and can print from my computer. I no longer have the HP apps I used to have, and now just have 'HP smart'

But now i cannot seem to be able to scan to computer like i used to do (it used to just automatically save in a folder on my computer without needed to go through too much rigmarole)

It says 'make sure scanning to a computer is turned on' and gives me a load of instructions, but i cant seem to be able to find those settings on my new HP smart software. PLEASE HELP

I have the same problem with HP OJP 6978 and a PC. It used to work perfectly, now it doesn't. I want to be able to set my preferences from the printer screen (pdf, b+w, name), and have the scan show up in my Documents folder as a pdf. Now I get no choices (from the printer screen), program opens on my computer, and my only options are image files. Where's the pdf option? This is extremely annoying.

Did your software change? I think this is part of the issue for me

For me it seems that the program "HP Smart" is part of the issue... the printer looks like being online, but when pressing Scan it turns suddenly offline. The program says the printer is off, but when I go and see it's on and also connected to the Wifi. It works sometimes and then I am suprised, after one minute it doesn't work again. I have PC and Windows 10. I am thinking to buy a new printer and skip HP totally...

Agree. It seems like this new software is the issue.

My printer stopped connecting to my Mac so I uninstalled all the software as the help articles said. Then when I reinstalled it was this new HP SMART (oh the irony) software rather than the old HP utility. I’m connected, I can print and scan now using my Mac. But the scan to computer button on the printer refuses to work.

I can't even scan from my computer... it works occasional if lucky, but now I did not have the patience anymore, it's so annoying. Yes, please rename the app to another name, it doesn't live up to that name at all...

I have the same issue.  In addition, the embedded web server shows "You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer."  I am unable to determine how exactly to enable this function.  I am the person who set up the printer over a year ago.
