HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 All-in-One Printer

I had to reset my printer due to wifi issues, I have now lost the ability to scan to email.

I have tried doing the outgoing email profile again online with the SMTP information but it will not work.

I am using the following:

SMTP SERVER - smtp.office365.com

SMTP PORT - 587

It comes up with the following message when I try to test it:

SMTP email server error. The server might be down or busy. Try again later.

Everywhere I have looked has said the most likely issue is the SMTP server name or port being wrong but I have checked this so many times and a bit lost for what to do.

It was fine before I had to reset the printer.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the HP Community --

Your email provider might require that you secure your email with 2-step verification and use an App Password with third party applications.

Scan to Email qualifies as a third party app in this instance.

==============================

Scan to Email – Two-Step Verification and Application Password

Email Account Security

"Scan to Email", "HP Scan > Email" and "Share" are subject to your Email provider's security that governs how your email account interacts with "third party software / apps".

For example, Google (G-Mail) and other email providers, including (and not limited to) Apple, Microsoft, and Yahoo, might require that you enable 2-Step Verification AND create and use an App Password to interact with the printer software, printer applications, or any program that requires that software to access your email account.

Where the email provider's security requires it, the App Password is used in place of your normal email password in "third party" apps and software.

Something quick to check: make sure that your gateway address and DNS settings in the network settings of the printer are correct. I usually suggest using 8.8.8.8 as your secondary DNS to ensure that address names outside your internal network can be resolved properly. This is one of the more common errors we run into in.
