HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e All-in-One Printer

Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 All-in-One Printer

From 16th of September, scan to email stopped to work with my Office 365 account because Microsoft enforced to support only Oauth2 authentication.

I don't find a way to notfify HP about the problem. I tried the chat assistance but it seems that the HP people behind don't understand the problem. Is it exists a bug report tool like were this issue can be tracked?

Thank you for the help

Hi @Alden4,

I'm sorry, I did not find the private icon for private messages. If you can access to my profile you can find the printer serial number.

Hi @Novae744,

Thank you for your response,

It sounds like you're encountering issues with the scan-to-email feature on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 due to changes in Microsoft's authentication requirements for Office 365. Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Steps to Configure Scan to Email with Office 365:

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. Go to the HP support website, download the latest firmware for the OfficeJet Pro 9020, and install it.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer’s control panel.
  • Navigate to Setup > Email Setup > Email Accounts.
  • Remove the existing Office 365 email account.

Re-add the Office 365 Account:

  • Select Add Email Account.
  • Enter your Office 365 email address.
  • When prompted for the password, ensure you use the correct password for your Office 365 account.

Use App Password (if necessary):

  • If you have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled on your Office 365 account, you may need to generate an app password to use for the printer.
  • Log in to your Office 365 account and navigate to Security & Privacy > Additional security verification > Create and manage app passwords.
  • Generate a new app password and use it when setting up the email on the printer.

Select OAuth 2.0 Authentication:

  • Ensure that during the email setup on the printer, you select OAuth 2.0 as the authentication method (if available).

Test the Configuration:

  • Once you’ve completed the setup, try scanning to email to see if it works.

Note:

  • Check Network Connectivity: Ensure the printer is connected to the internet.
  • Disable SMTP Authentication: Some users have reported success by disabling SMTP authentication in the printer settings, but this may not be ideal for security.

Following these steps should help resolve the authentication issue with your Office 365 account for scanning to email.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I did the procedure you proposed. The only point that is missing in the proposed procedure is the OAuth2.0 option on printer.

Novae744_0-1728849291474.png

The firmware is update from check page.

I don't see a solution other than a firmware update containing OAuth2.0 support.

Thank you

Hi @Novae744,

Thank you for your response,

Given that you don’t see the OAuth 2.0 option, it seems like the firmware may indeed be the limiting factor. Here’s a summary of steps and additional considerations you can take to potentially resolve this issue.

Firmware Update

  • Check for Firmware Updates: As you've noted, ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. Firmware updates often include new features like OAuth 2.0 support.
    • You can check for updates on the HP Support website or directly from the printer’s control panel under Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

Verify Email Setup

  • Remove and Re-add Account: If not already done, remove the Office 365 email account from the printer and re-add it. Make sure to input the correct email address and password.

Use App Password

  • Generate an App Password: If you have Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled on your Office 365 account, ensure you're using an app password instead of your regular account password. You can generate an app password from your Microsoft account's security settings.

Check Authentication Method

  • Authentication Options: If your printer doesn’t currently support OAuth 2.0, you may not be able to use the scan-to-email function with Office 365 due to the recent changes in Microsoft's security requirements.
    • If the option becomes available after a firmware update, select it during setup.

Network Settings

  • Ensure Internet Connectivity: Confirm that your printer has a stable connection to the internet, as this is crucial for authenticating with Office 365.

Test with Different Email Account

  • Use a Different Account: As a temporary measure, try using a different email account (if available) to see if the scan-to-email function works. This can help confirm if the issue is specifically with the Office 365 account.

SMTP Settings

  • Disable SMTP Authentication: As a last resort, consider disabling SMTP authentication if it's currently enabled. This can sometimes help bypass issues but may compromise security.

If you manage to get the OAuth 2.0 option after a firmware update, it should ideally resolve the authentication issue with Office 365.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello,

Regarding the networking stabiity the current setting was working perfectly for years until september 16th. I didn't change my network or other parameters before it stops to work.
I dont't have email accounts in my hands that that still supporting OAuth.
There is no OAuth option in the parameters set.

This means for me that Oauth2.0 is not supported in the current firmware version. This is not a believe, it is fact viewed from my view.
My request to HP is to implement OAuth2.0 for the product I've. I bough in Mai 2023.

Best Regards,

Christian

I am having the exact same issue as @Novae744.  It was working one day, and then it just stopped working.  I have the same exact setup as well, using Outlook.  I tried all the things linked in this article and others.

@Alden4 can you please share the solution you mentioned in the PM?
