Hi - issue related to network folder setup using Mac Os Catalina with HP officejet 9022 - seems quite frequent... many posts but solutions prooposed do not work.
- Much time spend on resolution, help welcomed thanks !
What has been done
- All drivers and firmware updated at last level
- Folder sharing enabled with SMB and AFP options clicked, read / write permissions enabled
- Accessed the web printer interface via IP address to setup the printer options (network folder) in EWS
- Tried the following option for ip adress : either \\192.168.X.X\folder or \\Mac book name\folder
- Selected the authorised user (+PW) and avoided the pin option in user panel
then... never passed the configuration test

Hi @obol
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
As this printer does not have a Full featured driver for macOS, you will not be able to Scan to computer using the printer control panel directly. However, as a work around, you may create a network folder on your mac and save the scanned documents.
Refer to this video How to set up a Shared Folder in Mac Operating System for help.
Once the folder is set up, follow the steps below:
- Open the EWS page of the printer. Type the IP address of the printer in the browser's address bar. The IP address can be obtained by tapping on the wireless icon on the printer screen.
- On the Home tab, click Scan to Network Folder.
- Click +, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
- After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder Profiles table.
Refer to the User Guide (pages 13-15) for more help.
Note: To know more about the HP Smart tasks feature, refer to this document.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for the help.
All steps were exactly executed. (and i had executed them previously but did all again) ; connection test still fails.
Just wondering if there is any kind of issue or specific guideline on the folder address format ? i'm using the following \\192.168.X.X\Scan HP XXX
Hope this can be resolved, thanks.

\\111.111.1.1\Macbook\folder
Use your own IP address and exact folder structure. Create a new folder in the root directory to get it to work. The IP address of the printer can be obtained by tapping the wireless icon on the printer screen.
Let me know how this goes.

Hello, thanks for the help.
Unfortunately MacOs Catalina does not support user root folders, it worked with previous system versions as Mojave, but is no longer possible.
Is it possible to use another folder location ? Or is it an identified issue / bug ?
Though there is no native Mac 9020 printer driver, using scan to folder is a very basic function for such a printer.
Thanks !

Hi,
Please make sure that SMB is enabled within System Preferences > Sharing under File Sharing, also make sure your user account is checked for SMB within the bottom user's list.
You should be able to use either \\IP\folder or \\Mac book name.local\folder as the path format.
I would also suggest making sure the latest printer firmware is installed for your printer and check.
If it still fails, what exact error is shown while clicking Save and Test?
Please let me know the results and I will do my best to help, consider that there might be many Catalina compatibility issues as well...
You may also set up scanning to Email instead, to get similar functionality regardless of your operating system version.

Hello.
Thanks it eventually worked after testing and reinstalling, using 192.198.X.X IP adressing...
Not sure how and why but the result is there !
Btw i assume there are so many others in the same situation. I know Apple MacOs use of SMB file sharing is far from perfect but i'd suggest HP to improve the driver. (make a MacOs driver ?)
