I have this problem but for an M281fdw. I've spent 6 hours on trying to get his fixed this evening, hunting down every answer on this forum, on Mac sites, on YouTube, everywhere, but without success. Methods that have worked for other HP devices don't work for this device or with this operating system.
It's just possible that there's a firmware update that needs installing on the printer. One is available from HP's website, but when downloaded, the Mac won't allow it to open. I suspect it's because it's not notarised with Apple for either Mac Studio, or M1 chips, or Monterey 12.3.1. Similarly, Read Iris Pro won't install (although at least in this case the installer starts running before giving an error message that's of no use). Screenshots below.

Thank you for your reply, very interesting - and makes perfect sense if HP still haven't updated for the new Apple products. Because my printer is now out of warranty I chose to pay £27 for HP support - initially they didn't have any effective solution and am still awaiting their remedy!! Watch this space.
