Hello,

Printer documentation and this flyer says OfficeJet 8710 can scan to searchable PDF.

But when I scan using HP smart, it only propose me to save my document to JPG or PDF. There is no Searchable PDF option as said in documentation.

The firmware and driver are up to date.

How to get a searchable PDF from my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 ?

Thank you for helping

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I believe HP Easy Scan application has the option to save scans as RTF or TXT files, using RTF or TXT format will save the scan as editable text. Once you save the scan as editable text you should be able to search the scanned PDF file. Let's try these steps:

1.) Download and install HP Easy Scan from here.

2.) Open HP Easy Scan.

3.) Scan a document or photo using the app.

4.) Click Send, and then select Folder.

5.) Click the Format menu, and then find RTF or TXT.

6.) Select one, and then click Save.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello Senan6806,

Thank you for your response. I will try it.

For now, HP Easy Scan can't see my printer. Does it require a USB connection ? I only use wifi.

Why is it so complicated to get a searchable PDF ?

Kind regards.

HP Easy Scan will work even if the printer is connected to a wireless network. Try adding a scanner to HP Easy Scan:

1.) Open HP Easy Scan.

2.) Click Scanner and select Browse Scanners... and select Officejet pro 8710.

Hello,

I don't know why, my printer didn't work anymore. So I had to completely reinstall it on my mac.

Now I do not have HP Easy Scan any more. I only have "HP Smart".

It only propose me to save my scanned document as PDF or JPG.

I chosen to save it as PDF. The PDF is steel not searchable. It seems that there is just no OCR function.

Kind regards.

Hello,

I have reinstalled HP Easy scan. It detected my printer/scanner. Bu it does not work.

It show up a warning icon on the printer. When I click on Scan button, It tries to prepare something and come back to the previous app screen. See bellow.Capture d’écran 2018-12-17 à 08.23.10.pngCapture d’écran 2018-12-17 à 08.23.26.png

But my question is we'll HP Easy scan we'll allow me to produce a searchable PDF ? I mean OCRised PDF.

If not, I won't obstinate to make it work...

From the manual, I understood the OCR were embeded in the scanner device to produce searchable PDF without needing a computer.

Kind regards,

Tumunui.

Yes, HP Easy Scan can save scans as RTF or TXT files which are editable and searchable.

Do you see any error on the printer display? If you don't see any error on the printer display, then try a network power reset:

1.) Turn off your Mac, Printer and Router.

2.) Unplug the power from the back of router, wait for 10 -15 seconds.

3.) Connect the power cable back to router, turn on the router first. Wait till the router to initialize.

4.) Turn on Printer and Mac.

5.) Open HP Easy Scan.

6.) Scan a document or photo using the app.

7.) Click Send, and then select Folder.

8.) Click the Format menu, and then find RTF or TXT.

9.) Select one, and then click Save.

I don't need an RTF or TXT.

I need a SEARCHABLE PDF as shown on user manual page 47
