We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Scanjet G4050
macOS 10.14 Mojave

ScanJet G4050 which works fine on a Windows 10 machine is not working with Mac Pro running Mojave 10.14.6.

 

1. I cleaned the system of HP software both using the procedure advised on this forum and manually ~/Library/Application Support/HP etc.), restarted the Mac, made sure the scanner is not visible, proceeded to install the drivers using freshly downloaded  Easy Start application.

 

2. Installation found the plugged-in scanner and proceeded with installing "Essential Software", downloading and installing 315MB of software (what exactly?)

 

3. It then concluded "the scanner was added successfully" and offered to "Test your scanner". I took it up on its offer, scanner was connected, switched on and with a document in it, as requested.

 

4. It is stuck on "connecting to scanner ...". Permanently.  Scanner is now unusable.  I do not wish to spend 70 pounds on VueScan just to get working what should be working already. And judging by some posts VueScan does not really help anyway.

Looking forward to a positive outcome for this frustrating situation.

 

5. I do not wish (software compatibility issues) and should not need to move to Catalina to fix this.

 

 It looks like I am by far not the only person in this situation.

I downloaded VueScan and it works fine, so the scanner is working.   Interestingly, running Image Capture (native MacOS part)  after installing and testing VueScan seems to cause damage to VueScan application which needs to be reinstalled.

 

I am quite upset by the fact that a small (10 employees according to the Owler)  software company can make it work, but the mighty  (perhaps once mighty?) HP seems to be unable to do this. 

 

I am definitely not happy to have to fork out 70 pounds to make something as basic as a scanner work again.
